
Year Reminder: India Government banned Chinese Apps, PM Modi deletes his account from Weibo
If we talked about this year, this year is very well-known for its coronavirus pandemic and lockdown. But apart from these topics this year will be also known for its major and powerful decisions. The one topic which is discussed most in this year is “Chinese Apps”.
2020 is the year in which India government has taken strict decision towards Chinese apps. These strict decisions was come in response after China created tension in Galwan Valley in Ladakh. The Indian government, at different times, put completely banned on Chinese apps. This decision is welcomed by every person in India and was seen to be related as a benefit for country.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeITY) had taken decision to ban Chinese apps. The government was banned apps in three lists. First list was released on June 29, 2020 in which 59 apps were banned. Second list was released on September 2, 2020 in which 118 other apps were banned. Again, in the third list 43 other apps was ban on November 24, 2020.
In these bans all the popular apps such as tiktok, pubg, likee and Shareit were banned. After this ban, China suffered a big financial blow. While India’s decision on banning the apps was discussed all over the world and this also made China broke financially.
After banning the apps, Indian government started encouraging locals to develop Indian apps. Government started a campaign and gave slogan named “Vocal for Local”. This initiative helping small businesses as well.
In this context of banning the apps, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also deleted his account from Weibo which is Chinese platform. PM Modi joined weibo in 2015, he had verified account and having 2,44,000 followers.
The year 2020 will be remember as Strike on Chinese Apps by Indian Government.
